STARTING BACK UP ON THE 23rd OF JUNE
So…what exactly is Aerial Fit?
Aerial Fit is a ‘suspension’ fitness class (yep, we literally have ‘hammocks’ hanging from the ceiling) offering surprising physical benefits, including spinal decompression and pain relief, as well as a gentle full-body workout.
We often hear people say that they use muscles they forgot were there, even if they are actively training. As well as the physical movements, these classes can also challenge your mind and rewardingly, you will be surprised and impressed with yourself at what you can achieve!
Each class runs in a small group setting for 45 minutes, with up to 10 people as we take you through guided moves for the ultimate stretch.
At this stage, our classes are designed for beginners to intermediate participants, where we present each move and then a few advancements if you would like to challenge yourself in the class.
Benefits of aerial fit:
Total body workout: Due to the nature of Aerial Fit movements, almost all the body parts are forced to move and stretch. Muscles are toned and redefined, and joints are regenerated and strengthened due to these movements.
Psychological: Just like almost any other workout, Aerial Fit helps rebuild your emotional system because it clears the mind and relieves stress due to its meditative state.
Improves Flexibility: Aerial Fit helps you to move more freely, with less effort, by counteracting gravity. Suspension in the air releases tension on the bones and muscles, increasing flexibility and deepening your practice.
Back Problems: Aerial Fit gives you the chance to hang freely, allowing your spine to lengthen. With less strain on your back, while doing the exercises, it eases tension in the spinal cord and hip joints, helping you feel better.
Increases Strength: Aerial Fit improves strength and flexibility, which carries over into other daily activities. The core workout also helps with cross-training, as it helps runners increase stamina and be able to recover faster.
Mood Improver: Another key benefit of Aerial Fit is the release of “happy” hormones like serotonin, endorphins, oxytocin, dopamine, which boost your mood and help you feel more energetic.
Improves Balance: While going against gravity can be exciting, Aerial Fit also helps with balance and stability in daily activities. Balance is a key component in daily activities, and aerial yoga helps maintain a good balance both inside and out.
Aids Digestion: The different types of stretches and movements help improve the digestive system, thus helping in healing various digestion-related issues, including constipation and indigestion.
Heart Disease: Aerial Fit improves the circulation of blood, thus combating aging and its symptoms. Aerial yoga also helps detoxify the circulatory and lymphatic systems, which lowers the onset of various cardiovascular issues.
What should I wear to class?
Form-fitting clothing is best. Baggy clothing (think sweatpants and loose-fitting tees) can make it more difficult to move as clothes become bunched against the fabric of the hammock. Ultimately, however, we’d love you to be comfortable so please wear what you feel best working out in.
No footwear is required, classes are performed in socks or barefoot. Jewellery is not recommended in Aerial classes as it can snag the fabric.
What should I bring to class?
Just yourself and some water. The studio will provide all other equipment needed for the class including yoga mats and of course, hammocks.
Is there an age requirement to participate?
We ask that all participating members be 14 years or older for regularly scheduled classes. (Those under the age of 18 will require a parent or guardian to sign an informed consent waiver on their behalf).
How much weight can the hammocks hold?
Aerial hammocks are professionally rigged to withstand 500kg of force. So don’t worry, you’re not going anywhere!
Are there any health conditions that prevent me from participating?
Unfortunately, pregnant women are unable to participate in Aerial Classes.
If you suffer from glaucoma, very high or low blood pressure, vertigo, osteoporosis or any bone weakness, carpal tunnel syndrome or have had a recent stroke, hernia or surgery you are also not ready to participate in a class. That said, please reach out to us to discuss alternative fitness support for yourself.
Do you do private sessions?
We love private sessions!
